A few quick facts about ADHD:
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a highly genetic, neurobiological condition that is characterized by increased or inappropriate levels of inattention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, and emotional intensity.
ADHD mainly affects the prefrontal cortex of the brain, the region that is (among other things) responsible for:
- Short-term recall (working memory)
- Starting and completing tasks
- Attention to detail
- Emotional self-regulation
By conservative estimation, ADHD affects roughly 8-10% of males and about 3-4% of females under the age of 18. More than 60% of diagnosed children continue to be affected by ADHD as adults, and more than 85% of adults with ADHD remain undiagnosed.
If left untreated, ADHD can have serious consequences:
- Complications and difficulties in school and other academic environments
- Depression, anxiety, and other psychological disorders
- Perpetual stress within the family
- Social challenges
- Relationship issues
- Job failure
- Substance abuse
But it doesn't have to be this hard!
Although there is no cure for ADHD, it is a highly treatable psychiatric condition. With a conscious commitment to change, revised lifestyle strategies, medication, and some forms of meditation, it is possible to control almost all symptoms and to achieve lasting improvement.
As your ADHD coach, I will assist you in achieving the professional, educational, and personal growth you are striving for.
